I was rereading Psalm 5 today and was blessed.
“Listen, God! Please, pay attention! Can you make sense of these ramblings, my groans and cries? King-God, I need your help. Every morning you’ll hear me at it again. Every morning I lay out the pieces of my life on your altar and watch for fire to descend.” (Psalm 5:1-3 MSG)
Sometimes I’ve wondered, does God really listens to me, if I really have His attention. It was so refreshing to find this same sentiment expressed in His Word, by a man after His own heart! While I do know He listens, and He definitely pays attention, I often question when nothing seems to be happening. That’s when I’m reminded that God is always doing something, whether I can see it or not.
I also consider that I may not be prepared for the answer, which means He’s preparing me for the answer. Like I always ask, would you give your car keys to a five-year-old and tell them to go for a drive? Of course not! Well, the same is true of God. There are some prayers that require time because we may not be spiritually mature, or spiritually responsible enough to handle the answers! God won’t take you where your character cannot sustain you. The more we look like Him the more He will entrust to us.
I love how the psalmist lets God know he’s coming back every morning and he’s coming back to lay his life, which are his wants, desires, and all he is on the altar for God to consume. In other words, he wants to do life God’s way and not his way. This is so powerful. We sing, “I give myself away so You can use me.” But do we really mean it? Do we put conditions on how we want to be used?
“And here I am, your invited guest—it’s incredible! I enter your house; here I am, prostrate in your inner sanctum, waiting for directions to get me safely through enemy lines.” (Psalm 5:7-8 MSG)
I am an invited guest! When I come to the Lord, He’s not going to ask, who let me in here? He welcomes me, desires my presence! Hallelujah! We’re invited into the inner sanctum. Nothing is off limits to us. We have access to everything God has including His direction which will help us navigate through enemy lines, life, safely. Remember, earth is not our home. We are just visiting here for a very short time as compared to eternity.
“But you’ll welcome us with open arms when we run for cover to you. Let the party last all night! Stand guard over our celebration. You are famous, God, for welcoming God-seekers, for decking us out in delight.” (Psalm 5:11-12 MSG)
When I think about God welcoming me with open arms when I run to Him for cover, I can’t help but rejoice and give thanks. Because He is on my side I can worship and praise Him all night long. He watches over me. When I seek Him, He welcomes me and delights in me. We serve an awesome God.
Today, I just wanted to seek God in His Word. I found Him and so much more. An encounter with God changes everything!
Stay tuned, because God isn't finished with me yet!
Be Encouraged! ❤
