What am I focused on – really?
I am very analytical mind. It is fabulous in corporate America, but it can be a serious stumbling block in my spiritual walk. Because I tend to analyze things to figure out the best outcome, or what my next move should be, I am challenged in allowing God to tell me, or show me, what I should do. I have come to realize that God doesn’t need my help, however, He does desire my cooperation.
One of the Scriptures I’ve had to truly meditate on and get deep in my spirit is:
“Our God says, “Calm down, and learn that I am God! All nations on earth will honor me.” (Psalm 46:10 CEV)
My take action personality had to put on the brakes and be still, calm down, if you will. God wanted to teach me a life lesson. No matter how much I try, or how analytical I can be there are things I just cannot fix. There are things I have to surrender to God! That doesn’t make me weak. It makes me strong! Knowing our limitations is one of the wisest things we can learn. Knowing who we can go to in order to transcend our limitations is priceless! There are no limits in God!
As I’ve wrestled with this season of unemployment and things not turning out ho I planned, I had to learn that there is more going on than I can see, know, or understand. This was about positioning and preparation, not loss!
It really comes down to a matter of trust. Do I trust God with the outcome? It’s also a matter of, what are you focusing on?
“So we don’t look at the troubles we can see now; rather, we fix our gaze on things that cannot be seen. For the things we see now will soon be gone, but the things we cannot see will last forever.” (II Corinthians 4:18 NLT)
It is so important that we keep our eyes in the right place. What we focus on, who we focus on will determine whether we walk in victory or defeat. Peter walked on water in the midst of a turbulent storm because his eyes were on Jesus. He didn’t get into trouble until he began considering the storm causing him to take his eyes off Jesus. That’s exactly when we get into trouble when we take our eyes off of Jesus! (See Matthew 14:24-30)
I know I spent too much time trying to figure out what I did wrong. I’ve since learned that this wasn’t about doing anything wrong but about growth. Then I had to learn that this season of unemployment might not even be about me! It might be about, and for, those around me, watching me. God uses everything. He wastes nothing so there is purpose in this.
But Joseph replied, “Don’t be afraid of me. Am I God, that I can punish you? You intended to harm me, but God intended it all for good. He brought me to this position so I could save the lives of many people.” (Genesis 50:19-20 NLT)
What I do know about this season is that I will come out better than I was before! This is all about preparation! So, while the enemy meant for this to take me out, lay me out, God has worked it out for my good! Hallelujah!
Stay tuned, because God isn't finished with me yet!
Be Encouraged! ❤
