Chosen by God!
“For my part, I am going to boast about nothing but the Cross of our Master, Jesus Christ. Because of that Cross, I have been crucified in relation to the world, set free from the stifling atmosphere of pleasing others and fitting into the little patterns that they dictate. Can’t you see the central issue in all this? It is not what you and I do—submit to circumcision, reject circumcision. It is what God is doing, and he is creating something totally new, a free life! All who walk by this standard are the true Israel of God—his chosen people.” (Galatians 6:14-15 MSG)
Boast about nothing! Focus on the Cross of our Lord, Jesus Christ. What He did there changes everything. The cross helps us to turn from the world and its stifling atmosphere of trying to please others, trying to fit in the patterns people dictate. It’s not what I want, or do, but what God does and is doing. He is creating something totally new – a free life! Walking God’s way makes us chosen, His chosen people.
We can’t boast about anything. All that we are and all we can do is because of Jesus. On our own, apart from Him, we can do nothing. Our focus must be on Jesus, what He has done through Calvary and what He allows us to walk in. We have been crucified – to the things of this world! It no longer controls us, or has a hold on us. We have been set free from the stifling atmosphere of pleasing others. Our value is not determined through pleasing others or being accepted by them. God has determined our value, our real worth. Because of this we don’t have to try to fit in the patterns of the world dictates. This Scripture makes this very clear:
“So here’s what I want you to do, God helping you: Take your everyday, ordinary life—your sleeping, eating, going-to-work, and walking-around life—and place it before God as an offering. Embracing what God does for you is the best thing you can do for him. Don’t become so well-adjusted to your culture that you fit into it without even thinking. Instead, fix your attention on God. You’ll be changed from the inside out. Readily recognize what he wants from you, and quickly respond to it. Unlike the culture around you, always dragging you down to its level of immaturity, God brings the best out of you, develops well-formed maturity in you.” (Romans 12:1-2 MG)
The world’s way will always drag us down but God will always bring out the best in us. He will develop well-formed maturity in us.
It’s not about us. It’s about God and what He is doing in us and will ultimately do through us. He is creating something new. We don’t stay the same once we encounter Him. He gives us a free life. When we walk His way, in His ways (His Word), we declare ourselves to be His chosen people.
Faith Confession:
Lord, thank You that I can boast in You! Thank You that because of the Cross of Jesus Christ I have been crucified in relation to the world. It holds no appeal for me. I have been set free from the stifling atmosphere of pleasing others. I don’t have to fit into the patterns the world dictate. I can choose obedience to You, to Your Word.
Thank You that it’s not about me, but it’s about You, what You are doing and creating. You are creating something brand new – a free life. I am no longer a slave to sin. I am FREE! Because I walk by Your standard, and not the worlds, I am a part of Your chosen people.
